Trobbio: a secluded stop for experiencing UTLAC close up
This guide is part of UTLAC's The area section and is intended for those arriving at Lake Como to race, accompany an athlete, or turn the event into an opportunity to discover the area with their family.
Trobbio is a more secluded and less immediate stop than others, but precisely for this reason it has great value within a well-made area section. Here, Lake Como almost stops behaving like a classic tourist destination and becomes again an inhabited, sloping, quiet landscape, marked by secondary roads and small hamlets.
For those following UTLAC, it can become a very appealing choice if the goal is not only to 'watch the athletes go by,' but also to understand how much the route enters real, little-tamed areas that are highly representative of the mountain soul of the Lario.

- keep the stop as a photographic point and an observation point for the race passage
Flavors of the area
Here, the food side is decidedly Alpine: polenta, braised meat, alpine cheeses, cured meats, honey, chestnuts, and mushrooms are the most natural references. On race days, it is best to choose simple places, with local cuisine and a more relaxed pace than the lakeshore.
Art, culture, and the identity of the place
Trobbio's strength lies precisely in its sobriety. It is a place that does not need special effects: it works because it tells the story well of the system of small mid-mountain villages that still support the lake landscape from above.
How to experience it during UTLAC
It is particularly suitable for those who love the most authentic side of the race and do not mind making a few targeted journeys. Less 'family friendly' than lakeside locations, but stronger for those looking for atmosphere and silence.
Where to stay nearby
It is best to use the Where to stay page as an operational base and keep Trobbio as a day trip, without necessarily looking for a stay on site.
