The race

UTLAC 60K is a sweeping point-to-point race through the heart of the Larian Triangle, combining long ridges, historic trails, and panoramic passages.

From Como, runners cross Monte Bolettone, Monte Palanzone, Monte San Primo, and the Corni di Canzo before descending to Lecco. In bad weather, alternative routes may be announced at the pre-race briefing.

The course is not marked by kilometer. Follow official flags and course markings precisely; any shortcut results in disqualification.

  • from 06:00 to 06:45 on Saturday, May 8, at the Como start area, Piazza Perretta.

A valid ID and all mandatory gear must be shown to collect the race bib.

Another person may be authorized to collect the bib by means of an informal written authorization signed by the competitor and accompanied by a copy of the authorizing competitor’s ID.

All bibs not collected by 20:00 on Friday, May 7, will be brought to the start in Como.

Art. 4 MANDATORY GEAR

The mandatory gear is as follows:

  • route track loaded on the competitor’s GPS device (phone or watch)
  • cup or glass for drinking at aid stations (think green!). Plastic cups will NOT be available
  • Race bib, which must be clearly visible throughout the race
  • headlamp with spare batteries

Mandatory-gear checks will be carried out at bib pickup.

Random mandatory-gear checks may also be carried out along the route.

Art. 5 RECOMMENDED GEAR

Premise: as stated in Article 3 of the General Rules, the race takes place in mountain territory; competitors must therefore understand the type of ground and territory ahead, and take part prepared both physically and psychologically, with suitable equipment.

In addition to personal gear consisting of clothing, accessories, footwear, and food and water supplies, it is strongly recommended that the following gear be carried for the entire race:

  • CamelBak or soft flask containing at least one liter of fluids
  • whistle
  • powered-on cell phone
  • hat or bandana
  • suitable footwear
  • energy bars or solid food
  • a minimum amount of money for the possible purchase of extra food at mountain huts
  • elastic bandage for dressings

Use of poles is permitted.

Should the weather not be stably good:

  • long-sleeved shirt
  • pants covering at least the knee
  • waterproof pants
  • survival blanket

In particular conditions, the organization reserves the right to require runners to equip themselves with the specific gear listed above.

Art. 6 MAXIMUM TIME, CUT-OFFS, AND WITHDRAWALS

The maximum time to reach the finish is 15h 30min (by 22:30).

A “sweeper service” will follow the route behind the last competitor, in order to assist competitors who withdraw and prevent any injured persons from being left without assistance.

The following two cut-offs are established:

  • Colma di Sormano, 12:00
  • Valbrona, sports center, 19:15

If arriving after the cut-off times, the aid stations are the collection points for shuttles returning to Lecco.

The shuttles will depart upon arrival of the sweeper.

The bags of competitors who withdraw will be available at the finish in Lecco.

Any competitor withdrawing from the race outside the designated points must arrange their own return and immediately report their withdrawal by SMS or telephone to the number communicated during the briefing, releasing the Organization from all responsibility in this regard.

In case of withdrawal, it is of course possible to return independently to the finish (except in cases of objective danger), promptly notifying the organization at the number communicated during the briefing.

To protect participants’ health, medical personnel at checkpoints or along the route are authorized to stop any competitor deemed unfit to continue the race.

In this case, the competitor must follow the medical personnel’s instructions, under penalty of immediate disqualification.

Race staff are in any case authorized to penalize improper conduct with disqualification.

All athletes who withdraw or arrive after cut-off times may nevertheless use all services dedicated to athletes at the finish.

Art. 7 AID STATIONS AND LIFE BASES / WATER POINTS

The race is run in semi-self-sufficiency, with a mandatory water reserve of at least one liter and a minimum food reserve.

Semi-self-sufficiency is the ability to be completely autonomous between two aid stations, for food, water reserves, equipment, and safety.

No. 7 aid stations are provided along the route:

  • Brunate - Baita Carla km 7 (food and drinks)
  • Capanna Mara km 14 (drinks)
  • Colma di Sormano km 20 (food and drinks)
  • Rifugio Martina km 29 (drinks)
  • Civenna km 40 (food and drinks)
  • Valbrona km 50 (food and drinks)
  • Rifugio SEV km 55 (food and drinks)

Only competitors with their bib clearly visible may access the aid station.

Food and drinks from the aid station must be consumed on site; drinking directly from aid-station bottles is forbidden, and competitors must use their own cups or soft flasks.

Take waste with you down the mountain (Think green!), under penalty of disqualification.

When leaving each aid station, runners must have the amount of water necessary to reach the next aid station.

An additional drink and food aid station will be available at the finish.

There are occasional fountains along the route where water may be refilled.

Mountain huts, bars, or inns along the route may be used, but any purchase of extra food or drinks (that is, outside the designated aid stations) is the competitor’s responsibility.

Art. 8 RUNNERS’ BAGS

At bib pickup, each competitor will receive two labels bearing their bib number

  • one to attach to the bag supplied by the organization, which they may keep during the shuttle journey, hand in at Como before the start, and find again in Lecco
  • one to attach to their personal bag for the finish in Lecco.

Competitors are advised not to place valuables in the bags; in any case, the organization is not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to bags or their contents, as expressly accepted and declared accepted by the athletes/participants signing these rules.

Bags may be collected at the finish in Lecco upon presentation of the race bib.

For no reason will the organization send uncollected bags to competitors’ homes; for hygiene reasons, they will be immediately destroyed.

Art. 9 START AND SHUTTLE FROM LECCO TO COMO TO REACH THE START

Competitors must report to Piazza Perretta (Como) by 06:30 on Saturday, May 8, 2027.

The start will be given at 07:00.

In cases of force majeure, the Organization reserves the right to make changes.

The Organization provides participants with a shuttle service from Lecco to Como solely to reach the start.

The shuttle service will depart at 05:30 from Lecco central station, Piazza Lega Lombarda.

The service costs 10 euros and, at registration, its use must be confirmed in order to reserve a place on the bus.

Those who collect their bib at the Como start on the morning of May 8 may nevertheless use the shuttle service if previously booked.

No shuttle service is provided from the Lecco finish to Como at the end of the race.

Art. 10 FINISH SERVICES

A finish-line aid service is set up at the finish.

Each competitor also has a meal voucher placed on the bib, to be used at Oratorio San Luigi Basilica San Nicolò, near the finish area.

Thanks to the partnership with Canottieri Lecco, the organization is pleased to offer athletes an area dedicated to shower and massage services 500 meters from the finish line.

A free massage-service area for competitors will be available in the finish area inside the Outdoor Village

Art. 11 TIMING

Timing will be provided by WedoSport, with a chip placed on the bib.

Art. 12 COURSE MARKING AND ROUTE MARKING

The route is MARKED and signposted by the Organization using ribbons and flags along the course.

  • Competitors must follow precisely the official signage provided by the Organization.
  • Taking shortcuts, cutting the course, or voluntarily leaving the official route is prohibited; such conduct may result in disqualification.
  • Any GPX track made available by the Organization is a support tool and does not replace official race signage.
  • In the event of bad weather, impassable conditions, or safety needs, the Organization may modify the route; any changes will be communicated to competitors before the start or during the race.

Art. 13 AWARDS AND AWARD CEREMONY

Awards will be given to the first 5 men and first 5 women, as well as to the top male/female finishers in the following categories:

  • 18 to 19 years old
  • 20 to 39 years old
  • 40 to 49 years old
